About Us

We are Janne and Elina Cederberg, and we are the driving forces behind Vyrdegård, a regenerative small farm in Billnäs, Raseborg.

We at Vyrdegård

We are Janne and Elina, our little daughter Linnea, three ferrets and a cat. At Vyrdegård we keep sheep, laying hens and ducks for self-sufficiency, and during summer we raise, slaughter and sell pasture-raised broilers. Our farm is located in Billnäs, about an hour's drive from Helsinki, in western Uusimaa. Why pasture-raised broilers? A simple answer is that we wanted to start a farming business and needed quick cash flow from the farm. Another reason is that we want to eat broiler ourselves, but with a desire to control what our food eats and how it lives. Through good broiler management, we also strive to create healthy soil that produces nutritious grass for our sheep, which in turn gives us healthy meat. A healthy animal eats healthy plants that have grown in fertile soil. You are what you eat, and thus you are also what your food has eaten. The organism is an extension of its environment. Agriculture must therefore optimize conditions for soil, animals and humans simultaneously.

Our pastured broilers

Our broilers live in Salatin-pens on pasture and are moved daily to fresh grass, giving them the opportunity to graze and eat insects. The pens protect the birds from the weather and predators, while also serving as a hygiene measure that reduces the risk of disease. This also allows us to carefully manage the birds' impact on the land. The feed is grain-based, soy-free, and enriched with corn gluten for its excellent amino acid profile and low PUFA content. The broilers are slaughtered on the farm, handled gently, and sold directly to customers by order.

Our Philosophy

Ever since we moved to the countryside, we've wanted to grow and raise our own food, partly because we've seen how diet and lifestyle can alleviate or even cure health problems. When it was revealed that Elina had endometriosis and it would be difficult to have children without assistance, we were forced to examine our philosophy thoroughly. The revelations emphasized something we had known before but now needed to address from new angles: seed oils are a metabolic poison, and meat from animals fed with these is also problematic. Today's medicine, agriculture, and nutrition stand on clay feet, and the most fundamental factor for our health – for humans, animals, plants, and soil – depends on our ability to support metabolic capacity. With generative agriculture, we focus on energy production at all levels, and we see humans as central actors and stewards of nature's future.

Our Journey

In 2020, we found a small cottage to rent in Snappertuna, and suddenly we were living in the countryside. In 2021, Janne traveled to Ridgedale Permaculture in Sweden for an internship to learn about raising broilers, while Elina prepared for our wedding. We got married, acquired sheep, ducks, and chickens, and started Vyrdegård together. In the background, we struggled with infertility and developed our understanding of health. Then everything changed. We decided to buy our own farm in Billnäs, and Elina finally became pregnant. This meant that 2024 became a sabbatical year. We renovated our new home, sowed a grass mix on the previously conventionally farmed fields to have a chance at pasture grazing, and built up the necessary infrastructure for the operation and animals. Our daughter Linnea was born in our home during the summer of 2024. Now we have built up our strength to launch the broiler season for 2025!
